Distance
Mito notices that Jin is always ahead of her.
Jin was always ahead of her.
At an early age, Mito realized that she would never be able to catch up to him. There was always a distance that separated them, a distance that she was and will never be able to close no matter how much she attempted to extend her legs.
While she was frantically chasing after Jin, Jin was chasing a dream far larger than what the whale-shaped island that they lived on could contain. Jin’s dream was a magnificent dream filled with thrill and adventure and with new people and places waiting for him at every bend and turn. It was a dream fitting for Jin.
However, it was also a dream that didn’t involve people that couldn’t keep up. Eventually, even the sound of her voice was unable to cross the distance that separated them.
