Sometimes
It's a reflective piece in Hikari's perspective... things that
could have been should have been but didn't... I'm not sure, just
inspired when I was goofing off when studying for physics...
Sometimes, she wishes she had waited for him. She always knew he was
going to become a great man, one with big dreams and a bright future
awaiting him. She always held extreme pride at the fact that she was
the one that saw his true potential before everyone. She was the one
that played catch with him right after he had discovered baseball,
attend practices with him and cheered the loudest for him during his
first, second, third, to eightieth and beyond game of his career.
However, she never thought he would grow into a man when she wasn't
looking. She was distracted by a handsome boy that would mumble
during their first dates, had nervous hands whenever he tried to
grab hold on hers, one that gave her first and looked like he was
walking on cloud nine when he took her home. She was so enamored at
this attention that she didn't realize that he had changed.
He grew taller. He had to point it out to her, somewhat smirking,
laughing, and smiling. He told her it was just too bad for her and
she wonders why she never noticed the extra centimeters that kept
tacking up on him.
He was more popular, no longer the boy that clung to her and
demanded that she be the one to take him to practice. He had friends
to talk to, to create new memories with and girls that would leave
love letters and confessions in his shoe box.
She remembers when the world revolved between just the two of them.
How he would listen to her as she told him about her dreams of
writing and when he told her his dream of baseball and Koshien.
Sometimes, she wishes he didn't introduce Hideo to her. Hideo was a
reliable boy that had dreamt the same dreams that he did, that loved
baseball as much as he did. She loves Hideo, she's spent too many
days and nights thinking about him that she cannot deny it…
However, if only she didn’t become distracted, then maybe she would
have seen it. If only she paid attention to then she would have
noticed it, noticed that very moment when Hiro became the man she
fell in love with.
